Ecuadorian Skipjack Tuna prices surge past $1750/ton, hitting a two-year high!

Improved Indian Ocean catches fail to stem regional disparities.

The global tuna market has recently shown regional divergence. In Bangkok, Thailand, September delivery skipjack tuna prices remained stable. In contrast, in Manta, Ecuador, supply tightened due to the fishing ban that began at the end of July, with skipjack tuna FOB prices reaching a two-year high of $1700 per tonne and showing signs of climbing towards $1750. Indian Ocean catches improved this week, with skipjack tuna prices around €1300/tonne. The yellowfin tuna market is similarly divided: Ecuadorian suppliers attempted to push European CIF prices to $2300-2350/tonne, but buyer acceptance was low; local European prices remained stable.Future market trends will closely depend on catches in major producing regions.
