ABOUT RED POMFRET

Distrition:Red pompano (scientific name: Colossoma macropomum, commonly known as red pacu) is native to the Amazon River basin in South America. Later, it was widely introduced to freshwater and brackish water areas in tropical and subtropical regions around the world. In China, the main breeding areas are concentrated in southern provinces such as Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hainan. It is mostly cultured in ponds and cages, with strong adaptability, and is a common economic aquaculture fish.

Nutrition:It is high in protein and low in fat, with a protein content of about 17%-20%. Its tender and springy meat is easy to digest and absorb, making it suitable for people of all groups to supplement high-quality protein;It is rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 unsaturated fatty acids, which help maintain the normal metabolism of the body;It contains minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron, as well as B vitamins and vitamin E. With balanced nutrition, it can provide the human body with essential micronutrients for daily needs.

OUR ADVANTAGE OF CULTIVATION IN CHINA

As a tropical and subtropical fish, red pompano requires a core water temperature of 25-30℃ for growth—and China happens to have the dual conditions of "natural adaptation + artificial regulation"：Southern provinces such as Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, and Hainan have a yearly period of up to 8-10 months where the average water temperature meets the required standard. With dense distributions of rivers and ponds, red pompano can grow naturally here without additional temperature control. The energy consumption cost for aquaculture is 15%-20% lower than that in some high-temperature regions of Southeast Asia. Relying on greenhouse technology and industrial recirculating aquaculture systems in northern China (e.g., Shandong, Henan provinces), and leveraging localized resources such as hot spring water and waste heat for heating, the "southern fish cultivated in the north" model has been realized. The water temperature remains stable above 22℃ in winter, breaking climatic restrictions and enabling nationwide supply of red pompano. This "north-south linkage" model is difficult for most countries with single climate zones to replicate.

Idependent fry breeding:  After decades of domestication and selection, domestic research institutions (e.g., Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences) have developed high-quality red pompano fry adapted to local water bodies. The survival rate exceeds 85%, and the cost is 30% lower than that of imported fry. Additionally, fry characteristics can be adjusted according to the needs of different regions (e.g., freshwater, brackish water).

Precision-Adapted Feed: Combined with domestic grain resources (abundant output of soybean meal and wheat bran), specialized low-protein feed for red pompano has been developed (with a protein content of 28%-32%). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) is only 1.8-2.0 (i.e., 1.8 catties of feed produces 1 catty of fish), which is much lower than the cost of imported high-protein feed. Moreover, most feed enterprises are located in major aquaculture areas, significantly reducing transportation costs.
